What is Residential Care or Assisted Living?
Residential living is where people of a similar
age live in a home environment and enjoy the
benefit of private rooms, a private bath, and
three meals a day prepared by professional cooks
on site. Assistance with daily tasks,
housekeeping, and laundry is available. Arrangement of social and community
events is also provided. Think of assisted
living as a very broad umbrella.
There are many situations in which a person may
consider an assisted living environment. Perhaps
you, your parent or family member is finding it
difficult to maintain a home any longer. Or you
may be frightened to be alone, afraid of falling
or forgetting to take your medications
correctly. Some folks may even be experiencing
some memory loss. These are all good reasons to
consider an assisted living environment. But
what do you look for when seeking an assisted
living home? First and foremost, it should be a
place that makes you feel at home. Take a tour,
talk to some of the residents as well as staff.
Ask questions, lots and lots of questions.

How is Assisted
Living paid for?
Residence in most assisted living homes is paid
for through private funds. In other words the
individual or family is responsible for the
monthly rent. Here at The Woodward, most of our
residents pay 100% towards the rent. We are,
however, very fortunate to have a modest
endowment. This is a result of the days when all
of a resident's funds were turned over when they
moved in. This endowment allows us to
scholarship from time to time, someone who may
not otherwise have sufficient funds to live at
The Woodward. At this time, The Woodward does
not participate in funding through the
government such as Medicaid. However, we will be
happy to assist those interested in pursuing
this option with information on local
facilities. We encourage anyone who has an
interest in living at The Woodward to discuss
his or her financial situation with us to ensure
we guide you appropriately to the best possible
choice. |

What does The Woodward offer?
Our license is called Supported Residential
Care. We provide a home-like environment, where
an individual can continue to live with dignity
and participate in his or her community. The care
staff, those directly responsible to see the
resident's needs are met, is comprised of
clinical and non-clinical staff. All have been
trained in meeting the needs of those who come
to live here. We assist with making sure
medications are taken and activities of daily
living, including dressing and assistance in
bathing. Three nutritious, home cooked meals are
provided daily as well as many snacks and
beverages! The Woodward is a busy place, with a
variety of activities both at The Woodward as
well as in the community.
What are the rooms and suites like and are
they furnished?
Each person who lives at The Woodward furnishes
his/her own room or suite, ensuring each living
environment reflects the tastes and personality
of the occupant. Each room has a private half
bath or full bath. Each room has its own
thermostat to allow an individual comfort level,
and every room has a view. All rooms are large
enough to accommodate several pieces of
furniture in addition to a bed and bureau.
